The Sherwood Group is delighted to announce that we have won the prestigious Gold Award at the Environmental Packaging Awards 2024 for innovative product, the ‘Flowers Hydration Pot.’ This accolade, awarded in the Online Retail category, recognizes our innovative approach to sustainable packaging in collaboration with Bunches, a leading online flower shop dedicated to environmental responsibility.

The project began in 2022 with a clear mission: to replace plastic pots used for flower hydration during delivery with an eco-friendly alternative. The Sherwood Group’s team worked closely with Bunches’ technical and procurement departments to develop a cartonboard pot utilizing Puracoat®. This innovative solution ensures structural integrity and leak prevention while championing environmental responsibility.
What distinguishes the Flowers Hydration Pot is its eco-friendly composition. Crafted from KraftPak material, it is fully recyclable and BPI certified for industrial composting, ensuring both sustainability and compostability. The integration of The Group’s Puracoat® sustainable barrier coating further enhances its environmental credentials, being fully recyclable and biodegradable in line with BS EN 13432 standards. By eliminating plastic pots, Bunches can save 5.4 tonnes of plastic annually, setting a new benchmark for sustainable practices in the floral industry.
Bunches has also expanded its sustainability efforts with additional packaging improvements, including fully compostable flower food packaging and recyclable/compostable brown paper wrap. The Flowers Hydration Pot represents the latest addition to their eco-friendly initiatives, reinforcing their dedication to environmental stewardship.
